Gay rights and population control should be looked at in tandem. Overpopulation will be the cause of progressively more problems in the future. Access to food and clean water is already a major problem in third world countries. Immigration and energy consumption are problems in first world countries as a result of overpopulation.
Eventually the entire world will run into this problem head on and have to deal with it one way or another. Overpopulation is already causing a problem when it starts correcting its self in the form of an aging society, like in Japan.
To address this problem we need to slow world population growth down. But not in the way China has done with their one child policy. Population control needs to be voluntary.
Voluntary Population Control
Aside from readily available birth control and safe affordable abortions, homosexuality can be a part of the overpopulation solution. Encouraging and promoting same sex relationships could account for a 5 to 10 percent slowdown in population growth. Relatively few same sex couples have the resources or the desire to create a child.
A certain percentage of the population is already homosexual and providing a supportive environment and encouraging them to come out of the closet would maximize these tendencies. All society has to do is to get out of the way and let nature take its course. Everyone is happy and there will be fewer babies. By choice.
Voluntary population control will be progressively more important in the future. Homosexuality and same sex relationships can be a part of the solution.
