Many Christians like to tell us how the Ten Commandments represent the core of their faith. About how they stand against adultery, lying, theft, and murder as the foundation of western society. And they advocate for posting them in the schools and public places to remind the the rest of us (non Christians) about their “values”.
But an issue Christians almost universally fail to acknowledge and/or avoid is how the First Commandment discriminates and disparages against the majority of the world’s population. That to deny the Christian trinitarian God is a sin. Which gives us non Christians the same moral value as adulterers, liars, thieves, murders, and of course, homosexuals.
This is why, as a whole, the Ten Commandments are a offensive to the majority of the worlds population: Muslims, Hindus, Jews, atheists, and religious nons.
It’s not likely you will ever find a Christian who is willing to acknowledge this. But when they speak of “Christian values” and “biblical principles” they are knowingly or unknowingly offending a major portion of the world’s population.
Which is why it would behoove us secular thinkers to become a little more aggressive and vocal and remind Christians that their beliefs are a minority position and that most of the world finds them offensive because they belittle and devalue us.
