It’s estimated there have been 80,000 Russian soldiers hurt or killed in the first five months of Russia’s war in the Ukraine. And most of them were young men who couldn’t care less about Putin’s politics. They likely joined the military for economic reasons or were drafted into service. And this number doesn’t include the Ukrainian soldiers and civilians killed.
Many of the soldiers didn’t even know they were going to war until they were already there, getting shot at. They were lied to by the Russian government, along with the rest of the country. And they didn’t even know they were lied to. That is because the government controls the media and is promoting their propaganda rather than the truth.
How can people be expected to make good decisions when they are relying on bad information?
They can’t. Misinformation is theft by deception. Good information is a basic human right. If Russia’s citizens really knew what was going on they could stop the war by not participating. But that isn’t an option because many of them don’t know they are being deceived by their government. It is a system problem where the rich and powerful are exploiting the masses for their own gain. And the poor people are dying as a direct result of that misinformation.
Unfortunately the news is becoming progressively more centralized and dependent on technology, and is therefore more easily manipulated. What the world needs is a way to bypass the existing system so the people will have access to good information to base their decisions on. If that were the case there probably wouldn’t be 80,000 wounded or dead Russian soldiers.
